“Observe, record, tabulate, communicate. Use your five senses. Learn to see, learn to hear, learn to feel, learn to smell, and know that by practice alone you can become expert.” William Osler
Utilizing the skills I developed throughout my SJU coursework, beginning with the digital portfolio process, I built a website for our Extended School Year Program (ESY) to facilitate the distribution of forms and information to Parents, Staff, and Volunteers in an organized and expedient format.
My Philosophy of education has transformed over the past few years. Once, I would have begun my statement focused solely on students, as they are without a doubt, the “Why” in “Why we do what we do.” However my years as both a teacher and an administrator have led me to look at education from a different perspective, the students still being the “Why”, but educational leaders being the “How”.
Through the writings of Jim Collins, Malcolm Gladwell, and Daniel Pink, I now look at myself first, to see how, as a leader, I can empower those around me, so that they can empower those around them.
The metaphor that I have used throughout this Digital Portfolio has been that of a puzzle. Each page represented a piece of the puzzle that is me. On this page my pieces come together.
My vision as an educational leader is to do my best to surround children with a system that is educated, supported, and intrinsically motivated to provide educators with the materials, tools, and information they need to do their jobs well, and to clear any obstacles from their path.
