COURSE OBJECTIVE(S)
This course will examines several major topics include principles of school finances, revenues and taxes, fiscal problems, school purchasing, insurance, operations and maintenance of school facilities, transportation and food services. Through coursework, readings, discussions, and case studies, the objectives are to:
- Students will demonstrate and articulate a knowledge of the fundamental issues regarding public school finance.
- Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of the budget process
- Students will understand the basic principles of purchasing, insurance, cash flow, tax rates, fund balance, state aid, and other related functions of the school business administrator.
- Students will gain an understanding of the typical role of the school business official as it relates to the Superintendent and Board of Education.
This course is designed to provide an in-depth investigation of multicultural education and human development in our modern pluralistic society. We will examine a variety of statistics, theories, and practical scenarios in order to garner a fuller understanding of the students that reside in our modern American classrooms. We will benefit from the collective experiences of our classmates, researchers, and prominent scholars as we look to achieve the critical goal of educating all the students in our schools. While no course can provide the answers to this very complex task. we will endeavor to raise awareness and increase thoughtful discussion of this very important mission.
